Rock leads wire-to-wire in 80-67 win at Seton Hill

The Slippery Rock men’s basketball team never trailed and led for 39:29 of a possible 40 minutes in an 80-67 victory on the road at Seton Hill Saturday.

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team never trailed and led for 39:29 of a possible 40 minutes in an 80-67 victory on the road at Seton Hill University Saturday.
 
The victory snapped SRU's four-game losing streak and improved its record to 12-10 overall and 8-8 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division while Seton Hill falls to 3-20 overall and 3-15 in league contests following the loss.
 
Saturday's game was a complete team victory as all 12 players on The Rock's roster earned playing time with nine scoring at least two points. The 67 points allowed is tied for the second fewest points scored by a Division II opponent against SRU this season.
 
Frankie Hughes came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points on an efficient shooting performance that saw him shoot 8-of-15 from the field overall and 5-of-7 from 3-point range for the PSAC's leading deep threat. Hughes also grabbed seven rebounds and made one steal.
 
Amante Britt scored 15 points while passing out a team-best three assists and making one steal. Jonathan McFall was The Rock's third double-digit scorer Saturday, tallying 14 points in addition to blocking two shots.
 
In his return to the starting lineup, Bobby Clifford recorded eight points while grabbing four rebounds. Tyler Frederick finished just shy of a double-double with seven points and nine rebounds, four of which came on the offensive glass.
 
Lashon Lindsey and Nik Cazacu blocked two shots each, Earl Baker Jr. scored four points while Zaire Rogers added two points and Colin McQuiston made one steal to round out The Rock's top contributors.
 
SRU and Seton Hill traded baskets early one with The Rock pulling out to a tight 20-19 lead through the opening 12 minutes. However, Slippery Rock finished the first half on a 16-5 run to take a 12-point advantage into the halftime break.
 
Slippery Rock maintained its double-digit lead for the duration of the second half with the high-mark being a 21-point edge with five minutes to play at 65-44 en route to the eventual 13-point triumph.
 
The Rock had a great all-around game shooting as they finished the contest at 48.4 percent (30-of-62) from the field overall, 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from 3-point range and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) at the foul line. SRU committed just nine turnovers while forcing the Griffins into 16 miscues.
 
Seton Hill went 26-of-51 (.510) from the field overall and 6-of-14 (.429) from 3-point range, but were able to convert only 9-of-17 foul shots (.529). Jimmy Moon led SHU with 16 points and eight rebounds.
 
Slippery Rock returns home to host Clarion University 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at Morrow Field House.
