Rock rolls to 3-0 victory at California

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team recorded its second consecutive shutout road win in a 3-0 PSAC West victory over California (Pa.) Saturday afternoon.

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team recorded its second consecutive shutout road win in a 3-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory over California University (Pa.) Saturday afternoon.

With the win, SRU improves to 6-1-1 overall ad 5-1-0 in the PSAC West while Cal falls to 0-6-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the conference. Saturday's win matches SRU's season-best away undefeated streak of four matches from a season ago.

The Rock's offensive charge was led by Georgia Nagucki who finished with two goals and Jordyn Minda who scored a goal of her own. Emily Arnold and Julia Mascaro each produced an assist.

Emma Yoder collected another shutout victory for her career while only having to make one save in the entirety of the match.

Slippery Rock's offensive attack got off to a quick start with Minda scoring her third goal of the season when she beat Vulcan goalkeeper Emily Ouiment and received a nicely placed cross from Mascaro in the ninth minute of play.

SRU continued its surge on offense when just nine minutes later Arnold found Nagucki who in turn rocketed in The Rock's second goal of the afternoon.

The Slippery Rock defense held its ground by not allowing California to shoot a single shot during the entirety of the first half of play while the SRU offense produced 14 total shots before the end of the opening 45 minutes.

Out of the break, Slippery Rock posted five shots on goal and one shot from Ashley Rea that hit off the crossbar testing Ouiment immediately. In the 64th minute The Rock was awarded a free kick which for the second time this season Nagucki sent into the back of the net for a goal.

For the remaining 25 minutes of play The Rock defense held tough holding the Vulcans to just two shots before the conclusion of play.

Slippery Rock held the advantage in total shots (32-2) shots on goal (15-1) and corners (12-0).

The Rock returns home from its two-game road trip to host Edinboro University 3:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at James Egli Field in a re-match of the 2019 PSAC Tournament Championship game.
