OBERLIN, Ohio - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team opened its 2021 season this weekend with a strong showing at the Oberlin Invitational.
SRU sent five players to the individual competition, which was played over Friday and Saturday.
Leading the way for The Rock was
Gabriela del Val del Toro and true freshman
Teddi Isherwood. Both del Val del Toro and Ishenwood went 3-0 in their singles matches in addition to teaming up to produce a 2-1 doubles record.
Reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Year
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez was a perfect 2-0 in doubles matches while teaming with Megan Qiang of Carnegie Mellon University in addition to picking up a singles win as well.
In their Slippery Rock debuts,
Nuria Martin Lopez and
Georgie Lancaster partnered to earn a doubles victory with Martin Lopez going on to tally two singles wins as well.
Slippery Rock will continue the individual portion of its fall season next weekend (Sept. 18-19) when it sends select athletes to the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
