SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Saint Francis University Thursday at the SRU Tennis Courts.

The loss pushes The Rock's record to 4-5 on the season overall while Saint Francis, a Division I school that competes out of the Northeast Conference, improves to 6-11 on the season. Of SRU's five losses this season, two have come against Division I foes.

The Red Flash earned the doubles point Tuesday by taking both the first flight and second flight contests as Dominique Yeo and Anouk Ma-Ajong bested
Lois Page and
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez, 6-3, while Nagisa Miyake and Romina Cutipa defeated
Lauren Fadden and
Amy Varckette, 6-2.

The loss by Page and Gonzalez Sanchez was hardly a reflection of the team's talent, as the duo was ranked as the No. 23 doubles team in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday.

Slippery Rock earned a point to start the singles portion of the competition as SFU only fielded a five-person singles lineup. SRU and Saint Francis went on to trade points over the first two completed singles contests of the evening.

Yeo picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win in the first flight over Page followed by a hard-fought comeback victory by
Gabi del Val del Toro against Marie Discini. del Val del Toro trailed 5-2 in the opening set before rallying to win 7-5 followed by a 6-0 victory to clinch the point and tie the team score at 2-2.

del Val del Toro has now won five straight matches to improve her singles record to 7-2 this season.

However, Saint Francis was able to take the next two matches to earn the team victory when Cutipa bettered
Lacey Cohen 6-4, 6-3 in the third flight and Miyake narrowly edged
Olivia Warner 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the fifth slot.

In the final bout of the night, Gonzalez Sanchez defeated Ma-Ajong in a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 battle in the second flight. The victory was just the latest in an ever-growing list of wins for Gonzalez Sanchez, who's winning streak now stand at seven matches.

Slippery Rock returns to action 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts West Liberty University in an Atlantic Region match at the SRU Tennis Courts.
