CLARION, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team registered a 7-0 shutout victory at Clarion University Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division competition.

The win, Slippery Rock's fourth in its last five matches, improved SRU record to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC. The victory also pushed The Rock's record against Division II teams to 5-2 in 2021. Clarion dropped to 0-4 both overall and in league matches with the loss.

Tuesday's win also firmly entrenched Slippery Rock into second place in the PSAC West standings. At 3-1 in league matches, SRU holds a one match advantage for second place over the trio of Seton Hill (2-2), Mercyhurst (2-2) and Edinboro (2-2). The top three teams in the PSAC West standings at the end of the regular season qualify for the conference tournament.

SRU's win against Clarion was never in doubt as The Rock took the doubles point before cruising in the singles portion of contest to post its second shutout of the season.

Sisters
Lauren Fadden and
Lindsey Fadden clinched the doubles point, the Golden Eagles did not field a team at No. 3 doubles, for The Rock with a 6-0 victory against Savannah Buttery and Sarah Kirmeyer from the second flight. The Fadden's are now 3-2 when teaming together collegiately.

The Rock's top doubles pairing of
Lois Page and
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez also secured a 6-1 victory against Alexis Strouse and Kali Aughenbaugh in the first flight. Page and Gonzalez Sanchez entered the match as the No. 23 doubles team in the country. The victory improved their record to 7-3 this season.

SRU opened singles play with a 2-0 lead after being granted a point due to Clarion not having a sixth flight entry.

The Rock went on to quickly seal the team victory with matching 6-0, 6-0 wins out of the third and fifth flights as
Gabi del Val del Toro downed Hannah Schettler and
Amy Varckette beat Buttery for the match-deciding point. del Val del Toro has now earned six straight wins to improve her overall record to 8-2 this season.

Lauren Fadden promptly added another shutout win over Kirmeyer in the fourth flight.

Page and Gonzalez Sanchez ended the day on a high note for The Rock with respective 6-0, 6-1 victories from the first and second flights as Page bested Strouse and Gonzalez Sanchez defeated Aughenbaugh. Gonzalez Sanchez's win was her eighth consecutive victory while Page is now a near flawless 3-1 in league matches.

Slippery Rock now holds a 33-9 lead against Clarion in the all-time series. SRU has not lost to the Golden Eagles since 1995.
