EDINBORO, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team increased its winning streak to three matches with an impressive 6-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory on the road Saturday at Edinboro University.

Slippery Rock exits the weekend with an overall record of 4-4 and a PSAC West mark of 2-1. The Fighting Scots drop to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in league matches with the loss.

SRU's No. 3 doubles team of
Lauren Fadden and
Amy Varckette set the tone for the day early on as the pair opened the match with a solid 6-1 victory over Lauren Chiacchia and Emily Cevera. The win improved the veteran duo's record to 4-3 overall this season.

Lois Page and
Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez proceeded to seal the doubles point for SRU via a 6-3 triumph against Torye Calleja and Kaede Tada in the first flight. The Rock's top pairing is now 6-2 on the year.

Olivia Warner and
Lindsey Fadden maintained Slippery Rock's momentum to end the doubles portion of the contest by besting Marina Zottele and Ana Nadai, 6-4.

SRU ended the match by taking five straight singles bouts, three of which were decided by shutouts.

Gonzalez Sanchez blanked Calleja 6-0, 6-0 in the second flight while
Gabi del Val del Toro downed Zottele 6-1, 6-0. Gonzalez Sanchez has now won six consecutive matches to push her record in 2021 to 6-2. Equally as impressive has been the play of del Val del Toro, who is also 6-2 this season thanks to her current four-match winning streak.

Warner and
Lauren Fadden followed with back-to-back 6-0, 6-0 shutouts from the fourth and fifth flights, respectively, against Nadai and Cevera. Since starting the year 0-2, Warner has battled back to go 3-3 over her last six matches

Varckette went on to post a 6-1, 6-0 win against Emily Moczulski from the sixth flight in the final contest of the day.

The only thing that kept The Rock from a perfect shutout Saturday was a first flight defeat in which Tada was credited with a victory over Page by retirement early in the singles section of the match.

Slippery Rock will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts back-to-back non-conference matches at the SRU Tennis Courts April 8 against Saint Francis University and April 10 versus West Liberty University.
