Claire Zimmerman recorded a complete-game, three-hit shutout and Cami Fisk went 4-for-4 with an RBI to secure a 4-0 game two victory that gave the Slippery Rock softball team a doubleheader split against California (Pa.) Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Claire Zimmerman recorded a complete-game, three-hit shutout and Cami Fisk went 4-for-4 with an RBI to secure a 4-0 game two victory that gave the Slippery Rock University softball team a doubleheader split against California University (Pa.) at SRU Softball Complex Tuesday.

California (12-4, 12-4 PSAC West) opened the twin bill with a 4-0 win of its own in game one before The Rock (2-10, 2-10 PSAC West) earned a 4-0 victory in game two.

Slippery Rock was led on the day at the plate by the quartet of Fisk, Alexa Guglielmino, Erin Gardner and Leah Vith. Fisk went 4-for-6 with the forementioned RBI while Guglielmino tallied three hits over the two games. Gardner and Vith had strong showings at the plate in game two, going 2-for-3 respectively.

Game One: Cal U 4, Slippery Rock 0
Rock game one starting pitcher Kelsi Anderson (1-5, 3.68 ERA) tallied eight strikeouts, her second-best strikeout mark in a game this season, but was outdueled by Vulcan starter Ellie Lobdell (4-1, 3.26 ERA) who parlayed 10 strikeouts with four runs of support to secure a 4-0 win for Cal U.

Leading the way for The Rock offense against Lobdell was Guglielmino, who recorded her second multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Courtney Hoffman, Julianna Hutchinson and Lexie Zavarelle added one hit apiece while Anna Villies walked twice.

Brooke Wilson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Vulcan offense. Paige Wilson also added a double while Charity Henderson went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

California jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on a Salena Jaquay RBI-groundout before adding three runs over the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 4-0 victory for the Vulcans. Slippery Rock had chances to cut into California's lead throughout the game, but ultimately left two runners on base in the first, second and sixth innings.

Game Two: Rock 4, Cal U 0
Slippery Rock parlayed a complete-game, three-hit shutout by Zimmerman (1-5, 4.48 ERA) and a four-run bottom of the sixth inning into a 4-0 game two win over Cal U.

Fisk led the SRU offense in game two going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI in addition to Gardner and Vith adding two hits each.

With the contest scoreless entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Maggie Moore led off the frame with a pinch-hit double before being replaced by pinch-runner Regan Hozak who came around to score on a fielding error by Barron just one batter later to give SRU its first lead of the day at 1-0.

The Rock advantage increased to 3-0 when Zimmerman worked a bases-loaded walk, followed by a passed ball that allowed Villies to score from third. Fisk capped off the scoring for in the inning with an RBI-single to center field to give Slippery Rock a 4-0 lead it wouldn't relinquish in the game two win.

Zimmerman was at her best Tuesday when The Rock needed her most as she shutdown Cal U scoring opportunities throughout the game including working out of bases-loaded jams in the fourth and seventh innings. The complete-game shutout was the first by a Rock pitcher since Camie Shumaker blanked Findlay in a 5-0 SRU victory on March 7, 2020.

The victory was also the first of Zimmerman's career in addition to being the first complete game of her collegiate career.

With the victory, Rock head coach Stacey Rice passed current SRU volleyball head coach Laurie Lokash for the third-most wins by a head coach in program history with 102.

Paige Wilson and Britney Wilson each recorded a double against Zimmerman to lead the Cal U offense in game two while Vulcan starting pitcher Kaitlyn Leary (4-2, 2.38 ERA) took a no decision after allowing four hits and four walks over 3.1 innings before giving way to reliever Kelsey Barron (4-1, 2.55 ERA) who took her first loss of the season after yielding four runs, one being earned, on six hits and a walk.
