Each Wednesday of the fall semester we'll be bringing you "Get to Know Them" profiles of current Slippery Rock student-athletes as we shine a light on who our athletes are outside of their sport. Next up, we check in with Abraham Mow of the baseball team.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
Q: What’s the earliest memory you have playing your sport?
A: I was five-years old playing tee ball and I was known as the kid with a big glove and a big bat.

Q: Who are/were your biggest influences?
A: My parents, brothers and coaches who helped me get involved with baseball.

Q: What made you choose Slippery Rock?
A: The quality of coaches, the prestigious program and the top-notch facilities.

Q: What’s the most embarrassing/funny moment that you can recall happening to you during a game or practice?
A: My freshman year, first at bat of the fall and college career. I hit a hard line drive into the left-centerfield gap and in between first and second I stumbled and tried to save myself for about five or six strides and finally tripped and fell about 15-feet away from second. I tried to crawl into second but I was tagged out. Seriously…

Q: What’s your favorite thing about your sport? What’s your least favorite thing about your sport? Why?
A: Favorite: Hitting baseball because it’s fun. Least favorite: Conditioning because of my asthma.

Q: How do you hope to be remembered at Slippery Rock?
A: Hopefully as one of the many great players to be drafted out of Slippery Rock

Q: What’s the most important game you ever played in?
A: In high school I got the chance to play a game at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies. It was the first time I played at an MLB stadium and reminded me of my dream of being a professional baseball player.

Q: Favorite athlete of all-time? Why?
A: Nolan Arenado. He’s a professional baseball player I idolize, same position, number, power hitter.

Q: Do you have a nickname? How did you get it? Who gave it to you? Do you actually like it?
A: Whippy Mow. I liked giving my friends and teammates rides around Slippery Rock. My teammates from freshman year. Yes, and it’s still used today.

Q: What was the biggest thing that you were not all the way prepared for when making the jump from high school athlete to college athlete? How have you worked to overcome it?
A: The level of defense I had to play at since college hitters are more talented at hitting. Having a faster reaction time and reading the ball quicker.

Q: Which teammate makes the best playlists? What’s on those playlists?
A: Luke Trueman. You Came to Party – Too $hort and Meter Mobb, Sandstorm – Darude

Q: Where did you go on your favorite vacation and when was it? Who did you go with?
A: Dominican Republic in the summer of 2018. I went with baseball teammates that summer (one was Joe Sibeto)

Q: Where is one vacation destination you haven’t been yet, but is definitely going to happen?
A: Hawaii

Q: As a freshman (or first year on campus for transfers) who was the person on your team that helped you the most? How did they do it?
A: Joe Campagna. He pushed me to do more everyday with whatever training we did.

Q: As an upperclassman/veteran of the program, how do you try to help guide newcomers on the team?
A: Try to make sure they feel comfortable and welcomed and not someone to shy away from since they have only been here for a short amount of time.

Q: What would the best super power be?
A: Teleportation

Q: What was your first job?
A: I worked at Cedar Point and was able to ride all the roller coasters for free.

Q: If you could be the absolute best in the world at any one skill or talent, what would you choose?
A: Definitely baseball 100%
