LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Slippery Rock University baseball standout
Andy McClymonds was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
McClymonds earns his first PSAC West Pitcher of the Week award for his performance in The Rock's 6-2 victory over West Virginia State last week.
The sophomore hurler started his 2020 season on a high note against the Yellow Jackets by scattering two runs over six innings of work while striking out nine batters and holding WVSU to a .190 batting average against. He allowed just three runners past first base in the 100-pitch outing.
In addition to being a career-high, McClymonds' nine strikeouts were the most by a PSAC West pitcher last week and the third-highest total on the season among Western Division pitchers.
A native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Blackhawk High School, McClymonds has appeared in 10 games over his brief Rock career, going 3-3 with a 5.46 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 29.2 innings pitched.
Also earning weekly recognitiion in the PSAC West on Monday by the league office was Athlete of the Week Tanner Froehlich of Seton Hill.
Slippery Rock, which took three of four games in its season-opening series against West Virginia State, will next head to the Division II Challenge in Cary, North Carolina where it will play four games over three days March 6-8.
