CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team opened the second round of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action with a 98-70 loss on the road at California University (Pa.) Saturday at Hamer Hall.

The Rock led for the first six minutes of the opening half before the Vulcans took control of the game. After trailing 10-7 with 14:09 to play in the half, Cal closed the period on a 35-20 push to lead 42-30 at the break.

The Vulcans then hit seven of their first nine field goal attempts and five of their first six 3-point attempts in the second half to extend the lead. Slippery Rock couldn't keep pace with the hot shooting and never clawed back into the game.

The loss drops The Rock to 10-11 overall and 6-9 in PSAC games. Cal U improves to 15-6 overall and 11-4 in league games and completes a regular season sweep over Slippery Rock for the first time since 2010. SRU entered this year having won 16 of the previous 17 meetings in the series.

The Vulcans shot better than 50 percent in each half and finished the game shooting 52.1 percent from the field (37-of-71), 48.1 percent from 3-point (13-of-27) and 47.8 percent from the free throw line (11-of-23). Cal posted a 43-37 edge in the rebounding battle and limited to SRU to just three assists.

Slippery Rock shot 33.3 percent from the field (20-of-60), 16.0 percent from 3-point (4-of-25) and 81.3 percent from the free throw line (26-of-32).

Will Robinson Jr. led The Rock with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Micah Till added 14 points and seven rebounds in just 20 minutes of action.
Revelinio Tholel capped the double-digit scorers with 12 points.

Will Bounds grabbed six rebounds to cap the top performers. Â

Cal was paced by Jermaine Hall Jr. with 23 points and Brent Pegram with 21 points.

Slippery Rock will return home to Morrow Field House Wednesday night to welcome Clarion for 7:30 p.m. tip.
