From the Alumni Mailbag: Shauna (Walker) Troup

For this week’s alumni feature we decided to dip into our mailbag and spotlight former Slippery Rock University softball student-athlete Shauna (Walker) Troup.

For this week’s alumni feature we decided to dip into our mailbag and spotlight former Slippery Rock University softball student-athlete Shauna (Walker) Troup.

A four-year member of the SRU softball program (2008-11), Troup helped Slippery Rock qualify for the NCAA Tournament in 2008 as well as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament in 2009 and is one of the top pitchers in program history.

Without further ado, lets touch base with Shauna.

Year Graduated (Major)
2011 (Health and Physical Education)

Athletic Accomplishments
Troup won 30 games over her career while posting an ERA of 3.59 in 78 career appearances. She ranks second in SRU history in career victories, fifth in strikeouts (199), sixth in appearances, sixth in walks allowed per seven innings (1.93), seventh in innings pitched (341.1) and 10th in complete games (29).

As a senior in 2011, Troup walked a Slippery Rock single-season record of just 0.87 batters per game. Her 11 victories as a junior in 2010 also rank fifth in SRU single-season history.

Current Occupation
Troup is in her fourth year as a professor in the humanities and social science department at Butler County Community College. She primarily instructs health and wellness/fitness courses. Prior to starting at BC3, Troup taught health and physical education on the pre-kindergarten – eighth grade levels.

Favorite SRU Memories
“The time our bus got stuck when it tried to make a turn and we all had to get off the bus and wait for a tow truck,” said Troup. "We ended up having to take the white ‘happy bus’ to a softball game.”

“Going to Mercyhurst to play and upon arrival realizing we forgot the helmet and bat bag. Coach bought us pink helmets at Walmart and we borrowed bats from Mercyhurst. We ended up sweeping them using their bats!”

“Making the regional playoffs, having fun at the games, in the dugout, bus rides and during spring break trips.”

“SRU Forgotten Angels Trips to Louisiana and St. Lucia, Fellowship of Christian Athletes events and Bible study, SRU football games beating IUP, SRU men’s soccer winning the championship game at home, watching volleyball, basketball and baseball games.”

Last visit to Slippery Rock
