SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team recorded its sixth-consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division victory in a 4-0 home win against California University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at James Egli Field.

With the win, SRU improves to 7-1-0 overall including a 6-0-0 record in the PSAC West. With the loss, Cal U. falls to 2-4-0 and 1-4-0 in division play. The victory marks the first time SRU has started conference play 6-0-0 since 2007.

The Rock had a dominant day on offense led by
Rachel Edge,
Shannon McIntyre,
Tyler Spence and
Kayla Swope. Each finished with a goal while Swope,
Brooke Riefenstahl and
Tatum Bradley guided the offense with an assist each.

Slippery Rock took control from the opening kick, recording the first three shots of the game along with a corner kick just two minutes into the contest. The Rock converted their first goal when Edge scored for the sixth time in eight games to give SRU a 1-0 lead 16 minutes into the contest.

SRU continued the offensive attack when McIntyre netted her second goal of 2019 off a free kick from Swope, stretching the Slippery Rock lead to 2-0 at the 17:58 mark.

The free kick continued to be a source of offense for The Rock when Spence sent a line shot past the keeper from 20 yards out. The score marked the second of the season for the senior and gave Slippery Rock a 3-0 advantage in the 32nd minute.

The offensive outburst for The Rock carried into the second half as SRU outshot California 16-5 in the final 45 minutes. SRU secured the 4-0 victory when Bradley chipped a pass to Swope who then posted her third goal of the season in the 89th minute.Â

Rock goalkeeper
Emma Yoder finished the day with five saves in 90 clean minutes for SRU, marking the third shutout victory for the sophomore this season. Yoder now has at least five saves in four of her starts this year.

Slippery Rock has now won seven straight games dating back to Sept. 8, tied for the sixth longest winning-streak in program history.

SRU won the shot battle over California, 31-8, marking the most shots since 2015 and fourth most in a single-game in program history. The Rock also held advantages in shots on goal (11-5) and corner kicks (7-5).

Cal U. was led on offense by Rebecca Lyxell who finished with two shots. Vulcan goalkeeper Gianna Sinatra finished with two saves in the losing effort before being relieved by Carly Gobbie at halftime. Gobbie recorded five saves in the second half.

Slippery Rock will look to make it eight-straight wins when it travels to Edinboro University for a PSAC Western Divison matchup 6 p.m. Wednesday. Entering Saturday, The Rock held a three-point lead over the Fighting Scots for first place in the divison.

• Slippery Rock has allowed one goal or less in each of its eight games this season, marking the longest such streak since 2013.

• Edge has now scored in six of eight contests this season. The sophomore leads SRU in goals (6), points (17), shots (29), and is tied for first in assists (5).

• Swope's seven shots against Cal U. are the second-most for a Rock women's soccer player this season.

• SRU scored four goals for the third time this season. The last time Slippery Rock scored four goals three or more times in a season came in 2015.
