No. 10 Rock downs Seton Hill, 55-14

Roland Rivers III accounted for 423 yards of total offense and five touchdowns to lead No. 10 Slippery Rock to a 55-14 win on the road at Seton Hill to open PSAC West play.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The 10th ranked Slippery Rock University football team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play with a 55-14 win over Seton Hill University Saturday from Offutt Field.
 
The Rock improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in PSAC West play, while Seton Hill drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in divisional games.
 
Slippery Rock took just two plays and 27 seconds to score on its first offensive possession of the game, establishing an early trend. The Rock scored on three drives of less than one minute and possessed the ball for less than nine total minutes in the first half while jumping out to a 27-0 lead.
 
Seton Hill scored twice midway through the third quarter to end The Rock's shutout streak at six consecutive quarters. SRU answered those two scores with a 21-0 run to end the game.
 
The Rock offense put up 500 total yards with 301 passing yards and 199 rushing yards. The defense limited Seton Hill to 222 total yards with 186 yards passing and just 36 yards rushing on 32 attempts.
 
Roland Rivers III completed 14-of-20 passes for 301 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, while also rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns to account for 423 total yards of offense and five scores.
 
Through four weeks, Rivers is completing 75.5 percent of his passes for 1,414 yards with 19 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has also rushed for 244 yards with three touchdowns to account for 1,658 total yards and 22 touchdowns, all without a turnover.
 
Jermaine Wynn Jr. and Henry Litwin both finished with more than 100 receiving yards in the same game for the third time this season. Wynn caught six passes for 122 yards and one touchdown and Litwin grabbed four passes for 105 yards and one score.
 
Cinque Sweeting caught a 30-yard TD pass against his former team on the second play of the game and Qaadir Dixon caught two passes for 39 yards.
 
Charles Snorweah rushed for 33 yards and one touchdown on six carries and DeSean Dinkins rushed for 11 yards and one touchdown.
 
Jake Chapla was perfect in the kicking game, booting field goals from 26 yards and 44 yards and making all seven of his PAT kicks. Those 13 points bring his career scoring total to 315 points, just three shy of the all-time SRU scoring record of 318 set by Stan Kennedy in 2000.
 
The Rock defense recorded 12 tackles for loss and four sacks with Wilford Clark leading the way with 2.0 sacks. Khadir Roberts and Chad Kuhn both had one solo sack and Kuhn and Brad Zaffram each finished with 2.0 tackles for loss. Kuhn also forced one fumble, while Garrett de Bien and Terrell Gabriel each recovered one fumble. Tim Vernick was the leading tackler with seven total stops.
 
Seton Hill got a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Darnell Carey that stood as the highlight for the hosts. Chris Jones completed 18-of-32 passes for 179 yards and caught one touchdown on a trick play in the third quarter.
 
Slippery Rock will now turn its focus to a second straight away game when it travels to Erie, Pennsylvania next Saturday for a noon kickoff at Mercyhurst University.
 
 
NOTES: Slippery Rock improved to 9-2 all-time against Seton Hill and won its fourth straight game in the series … The Rock offense topped the 500 yard mark for the third time this season and met its scoring average of 55.0 points … Roland Rivers III threw for 301 yards and three TDs and rushed for 122 yards and two TDs to give him four straight games with at least 300 yards passing and three passing TDs … Rivers is completing 75.5 percent of his passes for 1,414 yards with 19 TDs and no INT on the year … His 19 passing TDs in just four games are the 10th most in a single-season in SRU program history … he now has 47 career TD passes in just 16 games at SRU, moving into solo possession of third all-time at The Rock … with the 19 TD passes he threw at Valdosta State before transferring, Rivers has now thrown 66 career TD passes … Henry Litwin and Jermaine Wynn Jr. both caught one TD and have at least one TD catch in all four games this year … they both went over 100 receiving yards in the same game for the third time in four weeks this season … Jake Chapla was perfect in the kicking game and scored 13 points to bring his career total to 315 points … he needs just four points to break Stan Kennedy's SRU scoring record of 318 points … Chapla is also closing in on the all-time PSAC scoring record for a kicker, currently held by Bloomsburg's Dan Fisher at 361 points … SRU scored four touchdowns on drives that took less than three plays and less than one minute on Saturday … The Rock have scored 20 touchdowns this season on drives that took five plays or less … Shawn Lutz improved to 30-10 as SRU's head coach.
