Rock completes comeback vs. IUP, 3-1

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team recorded its sixth-consecutive victory in a 3-1 comeback victory over Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team recorded its sixth-consecutive victory in a comeback win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon at James Egli Field.
 
With the win, SRU improves to 6-1-0 overall and remains undefeated in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division at 5-0-0. With the loss, IUP falls to 3-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in division play.
 
The Rock was led on offense by Georgia Nagucki and Kayla Swope with one goal and one assist each. Sofia Harrison added The Rock's third goal while Katy Ericson had an assist.
 
Slippery Rock trailed in the early minutes against Indiana after Mahogany Willis netted her PSAC-leading ninth goal of the season on an assist from Alayna Ryan in the fifth minute. 
 
The SRU defense responded following the goal, allowing just three shots on target through the rest of the first half. 
 
Nagucki evened the score for The Rock in the 36th minute when she took a pass from Swope and fired a shot from 25 yards out that found the upper-left corner, resulting in SRU's first goal heading into halftime. 
 
The final 45 minutes completely belonged to Slippery Rock. SRU first responded out of halftime with a Swope goal on an assist from Ericson at the 66:15 mark to give The Rock a 2-1 advantage over the Crimson Hawks.
 
Slippery Rock then sealed the 3-1 victory over Indiana when Harrison scored her fourth goal of 2019 in the 80th minute when she headed home a corner pass from Nagucki for the insurance score. 
 
Rock goalkeeper Emma Yoder recorded seven saves in 90 minutes played. The reigning PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week has not allowed more than one goal in any game this season.
 
SRU has now won six straight games dating back to Sept. 8 which is the program's longest winning-streak since 2013.
 
The Rock outshot the Crimson Hawks in the second half (13-4) and finished the match with a 19-10 advantage in total shots while also winning the corner kick battle handidly (13-1). The win marks SRU's third come-from-behind victory of the season.
 
Willis led Indiana on offense, recording one goal on six shots. Crimson Hawk goalkeeper Madeline Smakulski finished with three saves in the losing effort.
 
Slippery Rock will look to win its seventh-straight game when it hosts California University of Pennsylvania for a PSAC West matchup at James Egli Field 1 p.m. Saturday.
 
GAME NOTES
• The 3-1 victory marks the seventh-consecutive game SRU has allowed one goal or less, the longest such streak since 2013.
 
• The Rock now sit one win away from tying the sixth-longest winning streak in program history at seven-straight wins which was last achieved in 2016.
 
• Slippery Rock's 18 goals scored through seven games mark the most it has scored through the first seven games of a season since 2015 when it scored 22 goals.
 
• SRU has now won five-consecutive conference games to open the season for the first time since 2013.
