WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a pair of 3-0 decisions Friday to West Liberty University and Notre Dame College on day one of the 2019 Atlantic Region crossover at the ARSC in West Liberty, West Virginia.

Slippery Rock started the day with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 loss to host West Liberty followed by a 25-17, 25-16, 25-22 defeat against Notre Dame.

The losses drop The Rock's record to 4-5 on the season. West Liberty improved to 6-4 in 2019 with the win while Notre Dame pushed its record to 9-2 following its victory.

MATCH ONE: West Liberty 3 – Slippery Rock 0
Logan Whitaker led slippery Rock in its first match of the day. The sophomore totaled 12 kills on a .233 attack percentage, 10 assists, one ace and two blocks.

Sophie Varndell had seven kills and
Kaley Fucci added six more to round out The Rock's top attackers against the Hilltoppers. Fucci also made 19 digs while Varndell chipped in three blocks.
Lauren Crytzer paced The Rock's efforts in the middle with a team-best five blocks.

Zoe Rivet guided The Rock's offense with 19 assists in addition to a pair of aces. Libero
Jalyn Willard was second on the team in digs behind Fucci with 15.

For the match, West Liberty held advantages over The Rock in attack percentage (.267-.115), kills (45-32) and digs (56-52). Slippery Rock bested the Hilltoppers in aces (4-2) and total blocks (7.0-5.0).

MATCH TWO: Notre Dame 3 – Slippery Rock 0
Stephanie Jacobsen bounced back from a quiet opener to tally a Rock-best nine kills against Notre Dame.

Crytzer and Fucci finished The Rock's loss against Notre Dame tied for second on the team in kills with six apiece. Fucci also compiled a match-high 21 digs while both players finished with one block.

Rivet recorded a double-double of 19 assists and 14 digs.
Lauren Weber came off the bench to register three aces and 10 digs. Willard provided The Rock's other ace in the match to go with 13 digs.

Notre Dame ended the match with a .170 attack percentage while holding The Rock to .068. NDC also finished with edges in kills (42-33), aces (5-4) and digs (90-79). Both teams had four total blocks.

UP NEXT
Slippery Rock will look to salvage the weekend with a pair of wins Saturday on day two of the Atlantic Region crossover in Wheeling, West Virginia. SRU will first play No. 21 Wheeling University at 12 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. match against Fairmont State University.
