CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost on the road to the University of Charleston, 7-0, in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, Slippery Rock will exit the weekend with an overall record of 10-6. Charleston improves to 14-2 on the year after the win.

Slippery Rock could never find its groove Sunday as the Golden Eagles took the first two doubles matches before sweeping all six singles bouts to earn the shutout win.

Charleston opened the match with a 6-2 victory by Silvia Slusarciuc and Elise Edwards over
Lacey Cohen and
Olivia Warner followed by a 6-3 win in the third flight by Regina Saucedo and Mathilde Simon against
Lauren Fadden and
Allie Welch.

The bright spot of The Rock's day against Charleston came from the first doubles flight where
Lois Page and
Viola Lugmayr beat Katie Swann and Kristine Gegsehidze, 6-4. Page and Lugmayr are now 15-6 as a team in 2018-19. Swann and Gegsehidze came into the match ranked 40th in the nation by the Intercollegiate tennis association.

Charleston started the singles portion of Sunday's tilt with a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Edwards against Page out of the third flight. Gegsehidze then upended Cohen in the top flight 6-1, 6-2.

The Golden Eagles officially secured the team victory when Simon defeated Fadden at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2. The final three matches of the day saw Swann defeat Lugmayr (6-2, 1-6, 6-3), Slusarciuc better Warner (7-6, 6-4) and Saucedo beat Welch (6-2, 1-6, 10-4)

Slippery Rock will look to snap its two-match losing streak at West Chester University 11 a.m. April 13.
