WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Behind a strong showing in singles competition, the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team defeated West Chester University, 4-3, on the road Saturday.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover victory improves The Rock's record to 11-6 this season while West Chester falls to 9-5.

West Chester took two of three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day followed by a win at No. 1 singles before The Rock rallied back by winning four of the final five singles bouts to earn the comeback victory.

Alyssa Skulsky and Rylee Power upended Viola Lugmayr and Lois Page, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles in the day's first result. Lacey Cohen and Olivia Warner earned a 6-2 victory over Leandra Roelker and Danisa Erriad in the second flight to give each school a doubles win, but WCU was able to claim the point after a narrow 7-5 victory in the third flight by Julia Mowrey and Shannon Nixon over Lauren Fadden and Allie Welch.

Power would open the singles portion of Saturday's contest with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Cohen to push West Chester's lead out to 2-0.

The Rock then answered back with three consecutive wins. Warner downed Roelker 6-3, 6-1 in the fourth flight, Welch beat Nixon 6-4, 6-2 out of the sixth slot and Page bested Skulsky 7-6 (6), 6-3 in the third flight to give SRU a 3-2 edge in the team score.

Elaina Rochford was able to tie the match for West Chester briefly after taking her fifth-flight contest against Fadden 6-3, 6-1. However, Lugmayr came away with a huge 6-0, 7-5 victory out of the second flight to secure the 4-3 victory for The Rock.
