INDIANA, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team defeated Indiana University (Pa.), 5-2, Monday and in the process clinched the No. 1 seed out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division in the upcoming conference tournament.

Slippery Rock, which has won three straight matches and is third ranked team in the Atlantic Region, improves its record to 14-7 overall and 5-0 in the PSAC West with the win. The Crimson Hawks, traditionally a regional power, drops to 9-12 overall and 4-2 in league matches with the loss.

Slippery Rock took two out of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day before rolling through singles play with four victories to close out the conference win.

SRU's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles team registered victories to get The Rock started on a high note.

Viola Lugmayr and
Lois Page downed Thais Anderotti and Katya Minchenkova out of the first flight with a perfect 6-0 win out of the top flight.
Lacey Cohen and
Olivia Warner clinched the doubles decision for SRU when it downed Mariana Valenzuela and Julia Newman, 6-2.

The Crimson Hawks did manage to avoid the doubles sweep when Maria Magraner and Laura Dunarova bested
Lauren Fadden and
Allie Welch, 6-2.

Indiana briefly rallied back to take a 2-1 lead with consecutive victories to start singles competition before The Rock rebounded to close out the match, and the win.

After losses out of the second and sixth flights, Slippery Rock rattled off four straight wins. Fadden started the comeback bid with a tight 7-6, 6-4 win out of the fifth flight over Valenzuela. SRU then proceeded to pull ahead for good via a 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 triumph out of the third slot by Page against Dunarova.

Warner followed Page's win up when she got the best of Anderotti out of the fourth flight 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 with Cohen capping off the day with a tight 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win out of the No. 1 flight against Minchenkova in what was a rematch of the PSAC Individual Championship final, which Cohen also won.

Slippery Rock will close out the regular season 4 p.m. Wednesday against California University (Pa.). Â
