SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team will continue its 2019 season with 12 contests over spring break at the National Training Center Softball Tournament in Clermont, Florida.
The Rock will play doubleheaders starting Saturday, March 9 beginning with matchups against Notre Dame College (Ohio) and Drury University. Their next four games will be on March 10 and March 11 against Fairmont State University, Wayne State University, Concord University and Caldwell University.
Following and off-day, SRU faces Millersville University and Urbana University on March 13, and then concludes the trip on March 14 and March 15 against Winona State University, West Chester University, the University of Bridgeport and Le Moyne College.

THE ROCK NOTES
- SLOW START – SRU began its 2019 season with five games in Myrtle Beach and went 1-4. The last time Slippery Rock started a season with a 1-4 record was back in 2017.
- LAST TRIP TO FLORIDA – In last season's trip to Clermont, SRU went 6-6 with big wins against Illinois-Springfield, Saint Michael's, Jefferson, Bloomsburg, Minnesota-Crookston and Bemidji State. The Rock received breakout performances from Becca Roesch and Camie Shumaker in that stretch with Roesch hitting .314 (11-for-35) with 3 home runs and 10 RBI, while Shumaker was 3-0 in five appearances tallying a 1.03 ERA (4 ER in 27.2 IP) hurling three complete games including two shutouts.
- SPRING BREAK SINCE 2013 – Since Slippery Rock has taken trips to the NTC Tournament for spring break, it has run into some tough competition. The Rock are currently 23-37 in matchups in Clermont, Florida dating back to 2013.
- THE OFFENSE – The Rock have struggled to get the offense going early this season. Through its first five contests, SRU is batting just .195 (24-for-123).
- MORE OF THE SAME FOR BROWN – A bright spot on offense to start the year has been senior Megan Brown. Brown is hitting .286 (4-for-14) with two RBI, two runs scored and is 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
- SHUMAKER'S START – Shumaker has been solid in the circle thus far tallying a 2.33 ERA (5 ER in 15.0 IP) in three appearances (two starts) hurling one complete game.
