Rock blanks Quincy, 7-0

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team recorded a 7-0 shutout of Quincy Thursday in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team recorded a 7-0 shutout of Quincy University Thursday at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
 
The victory, Slippery Rock's fourth in its last five matches, improves The Rock's record to 7-3 on the season overall while Quincy drops to 4-5 with the defeat.
 
SRU registered wins in the first two doubles flights to earn the first team point of the day before closing out the win by sweeping all six singles matches.
 
Lois Page and Viola Lugmayr got The Rock started out on a high note with a 6-1 victory over Makaela Hampton and Nicole Lao at the first doubles flight. Lacey Cohen and Olivia Warner proceeded to wrap up the doubles point for SRU with a 6-4 triumph against M. C. Garcia and Anna Konczak in the second flight.
 
Both of The Rock's top two doubles pairings are 7-3 in dual matches this year with Lugmayr and Page boasting a strong 10-5 overall record as well.
 
The lone bright spot for Quincy on Thursday was a narrow 7-6 (2) win at No. 3 doubles by Rita Kanaeva and Abby Moore against Allie Welch and Lauren Fadden.
 
Slippery Rock's top two singles competitors almost recorded individual shutouts as Cohen bested Kanaeva 6-0, 6-1 in the first flight and Lugmayr downed Hampton 6-0, 6-2.
 
Page was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at third singles over Lao while Warner picked up her team-leading 12th win of the season via a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the fourth flight against Garcia.
 
SRU concluded the win with Fadden outlasting Konczak in the fifth flight 6-2, 6-7 (2), 10-7 and Welch scoring a 6-3, 6-0 win over Moore in the sixth slot.
 
Slippery Rock will look to continue its winning ways when it concludes its time in South Carolina 3:30 p.m. Friday against Nebraska-Kearney at the Evian Tennis Center.
