HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost to George Mason University, 6-1, Wednesday in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The loss snaps The Rock's three-match winning streak and drops their overall record to 6-3 on the season. George Mason improves to 8-3 in 2018-19 with the win.

George Mason took two of three doubles matches to earn the day's first point before closing out the contest by taking five of the six singles bouts.

The Rock's lone doubles win was a 7-6 win in the first flight by
Lois Page and
Viola Lugmayr against Brianna Gibbs and Sydney Green. Page and Lugmayr are now 9-5 as a team this year.

In other doubles competition, Hannah Harrod and Jackie Nannery bested
Lacey Cohen and
Olivia Warner in the second flight 6-3 while Hannah Yang and Rachel Lee downed
Allie Welch and
Lauren Fadden from the third slit 6-3 as well.

Slippery Rock netted its lone point of the day in the No. 2 singles match as Lugmayr handed Gibbs a 6-1, 6-2 defeat for what was Lugmayr's 10th victory of the year.

Cohen lost a close battle at No. 1 singles to Sydney Green 6-1, 6-7, 14-12. Page also lost a tightly-contested match in the third flight to Harrod 7-6, 6-4.

The back half of the singles lineup saw Marium Raza defeat Warner (7-5, 6-2), Christine McCarthy down Fadden (6-3, 7-5) and Kayleigh Hahn get the better of Welch (6-1, 6-2).

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from Wednesday's loss with a win against Quincy University 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
