LAKELAND, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight road game at a nationally ranked opponent with a 20-7 loss at No. 3 Florida Southern Wednesday afternoon.

The Rock dropped to 1-2 overall on the year after playing their third of four straight nationally ranked opponents to open the year. Florida Southern improved to 6-1 with the win.

The Mocs jumped out to an 11-2 halftime lead and never looked back on the way to the win, posting advantages of 36-13 in total shots, 31-10 in shots on goal, 20-10 in draw controls and 28-21 in ground balls. SRU finished just 11-of-21 on clear attempts and was whistled for 25 fouls, while the hosts went 17-of-20 on clear attempts and took just four fouls.

Slippery Rock got a pair of goals each from
Hayley Pimentel and
Francesca Lindelow to lead the offense.
ShyAnne Toomer added one goal and one assist and
Sam Barnhart and
Tori Penders capped the point scorers with one goal each. Penders also caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls.

Haley Barrett made a career-high 11 saves in goal and finished with six ground balls.

Florida Southern got four goals from Riley Bannatyne and one goal and four assists from Grace Glinecki.

Patricia Werker earned the win in goal after allowing two goals and recording one save over the first half. Brittany Iamele played the second half and allowed five goals while making two saves.

Slippery Rock will travel back to Pennsylvania this weekend to open the conference schedule Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at No. 4 West Chester.
