Rock loses at St. Bonaventure

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team lost at St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon, 5-2.

OLEAN, N.Y. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost at St. Bonaventure University, 5-2, Saturday afternoon.
 
Slippery Rock falls to 3-2 on the year with the loss while St. Bonaventure, an NCAA Division I team that competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference, improves to 1-6.
 
The highlight of the day for The Rock was a pair of singles victories by Viola Lugmayr and Lauren Fadden.
 
Lugmayr earned a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Kahlei Reisinger in the second flight while Fadden downed Emily Stanley 7-6, 6-1 in the fifth flight. Lugmayr and Fadden exit Saturday's match with singles records in 2018-19 of 7-4 and 4-2, respectively.
 
In the sixth flight, Allie Welch dropped a tight contest to Paula Velilla 7-6 (6), 7-6 (2). The third flight bout between Lois Page and Andrea Roque was also close as Roque was just able to outlast The Rock's lone freshman 7-6 (4), 6-3.
 
Lacey Cohen and Olivia Warner rounded out The Rock's singles competitors Saturday. Cohen fell to Penelope Abreu 7-0, 6-1 in the top flight and Warner lost to Buse Gunay 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth flight.
 
The day started with three St. Bonaventure doubles wins which earned the Bonnies the first point of the match heading into the aforementioned singles portion of contest.
 
Velilla and Gunay defeated Welch and Fadden 6-0 in the third flight followed by matching 6-2 SBU wins in the first and second flights by Roque and Abreu against Page and Lugmayr as well as Stanley and Reisinger versus Cohen and Warner.
 
Slippery Rock returns to NCAA Division II competition when it hosts Notre Dame College 12 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
