Hot-shooting Kutztown downs SRU, 94-84

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting performance from hosting Kutztown University in dropping a 94-84 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game at Keystone Arena Friday night.

The Golden Bears shot a season-high against Division II competition at 51.7 percent from the field and outscored SRU by 10 points at the free throw line with a 92.9 percent showing at the charity stripe. Kutztown improves to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in PSAC games with the win, while SRU slips to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in PSAC games with the loss.

Slippery Rock trailed for more than 30 minutes in the game and could never push its advantage out to more than three points when it did get on top. The Rock led 58-55 with 10:43 to play, but Kutztown put together a 14-2 run from that point to take control of the game. SRU would never get the deficit back inside six points.

The visitors ran into foul trouble early when All-American forward Micah Till picked up three fouls in his first six minutes on the court. Till picked up a fourth foul early in the second half and only played 18 minutes in the game, but still ended up as the second-leading scorer for SRU with 16 points.

Will Robinson Jr. scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead SRU. Donovan Walker and Jared Armstrong each added 15 points as The Rock finished with four players in double figures.

Revelinio Tholel scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds and Amante Britt scored four points and handed out three assists to cap the top performers for SRU.

Kutztown was led by Wesley Butler, who scored a game-high 26 points. Kyree Generett added 19 points with 12 of those coming at the free throw line. Ryan Bernstein and Josh Townsend each scored 10 points off the bench and combined with Generett to tally 39 reserve points.

Slippery Rock will have little time to reflect on the loss as it will travel to No. 14 West Chester Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game against the undefeated 10-0 Golden Rams.
