Rock loses exhibition at Rider, 90-59

Slippery Rock lost to Rider in an exhibition game, 90-59, Saturday afternoon. Jared Armstrong led the way for The Rock with a game-high 23 points.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – In its final dress rehearsal before the start of the 2019-20 season, the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team lost an exhibition game on the road to Rider University Saturday, 90-59, at the Alumni Gymnasium in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
 
The contest marked the second exhibition contest against a Division I team this week for Slippery Rock, which also played at the University of Pittsburgh on Oct. 30.
 
Jared Armstrong paced The Rock's efforts Saturday with a game-high 23 points. In 32 minutes of playing time, Armstrong went 9-for-19 from the field overall and an impressive 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
 
Donovan Walker added eight points while the trio of Will Robinson Jr., Andre Seadey and Will Bounds rounded out The Rock's top scorers with five points each. Walker also collected three steals with Robinson Jr. pulling down four rebounds and Seadey dishing out three assists.
 
Revelinio Tholel and Nik Cazacu came off the bench to combine for 13 rebounds. Four of Cazacu's six rebounds came on the offensive glass.
 
For the game, The Rock shot 33.9 percent (21-for-62) from the field overall, 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from 3-point range and 46.7 percent (7-for-15) at the foul line.
 
Rider, which was predicted to finish in second place this season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, was led by Frederick Scott's 18-point, 10-rebound double-double effort. The Broncs finished the game shooting 54 percent (34-for-63) from the field overall.
 
SRU led 10-9 through the game's first four minutes before Rider went on a 17-0 run over the following five minutes to take 26-10 lead it would never relinquish on the way to its 31-point victory.
 
Slippery Rock officially starts its 2019-20 season Nov. 8-9 with two games in Fairmont, West Virginia at the Joe Retton Classic. SRU first plays Notre Dame College 6 p.m. Nov. 8 followed by host Fairmont State 8 p.m. Nov. 9.
