Rock loses at Tiffin, 3-0

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost in three sets (25-14, 25-14, 25-15) on the road at Tiffin Tuesday night.

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a non-conference match in three sets on the road at Tiffin University Tuesday night.
 
Slippery Rock could never quite find its collective footing against the Dragons as Tiffin took the opening two sets with matching 25-14, 25-14 wins before securing the sweep with a 25-15 victory in the third set.
 
The loss drops The Rock's record to 7-9 overall this season while Tiffin improves to 10-7 with the victory.
 
SRU was limited to a .027 attack percentage while Tiffin finished the match with a .270 hitting percentage. Tiffin also held advantages over The Rock in kills (43-20), aces (7-4), digs (64-35) and blocks (6-4).
 
Zoe Rivet provided The Rock with three aces Tuesday, increasing her season total to 33 which ranks first among all Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference athletes. The three aces also moved her into a tie with Bev Rea for the 10th most aces in a career at The Rock with 132.
 
Sophie Varndell tallied a team-high eight kills while also tying Abigail Nigon with a Rock-best two blocks. Kaley Fucci supplemented Varndell's production with five kills and one ace.
 
Nigon (three kills), Abigail Koeller (two), Gabby Huck (one) and Tiara Teague (one) rounded out The Rock's leading attackers. In addition to her three aces, Rivet also guided SRU's attack with 14 assists.
 
Stephanie Jacobsen and Koeller both finished with double-digit dig totals as Jacobsen, who served as SRU's libero, posted 14 digs with Koeller adding 10.
 
Jenna Huffman had 15 kills to lead Tiffin in the win.
 
Slippery Rock will look to rebound from Tuesday's loss when it starts a season-long three-match homestand 7 p.m. Friday against Shippensburg University in a PSAC contest at Morrow Field House.
