SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team rolled to a 5-1 victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown at James Egli Field Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 10-2-0 overall and 9-1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Pitt-Johnstown falls to 4-8-0 including a 3-7-0 record in conference play.

SRU was led on offense by Jordyn Minda who finished with a goal and an assist for The Rock. Shannon McIntyre, Ashley Rea, Rachel Edge and Kayla Swope each added a goal as well while Brooke Riefenstahl, Tyler Spence and Sofia Harrison guided the Slippery Rock offense with an assist each.

The superb SRU offensive attack got off to a fast start when McIntyre netted an unassisted score in the 21st minute for her third goal of 2019. UPJ responded quickly when Abby LaDuke scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season on a feed from Danielle Lippl to tie the game at one apiece in the 25th minute.

The Rock offense responded to the Mountain Cat score by netting four unanswered goals, the first coming from Rea in the 40th minute for her first collegiate score on a pass from Minda to give The Rock a one-goal lead going into halftime.

Minda joined the scoring effort four minutes into the second half when she played a pass from Riefenstahl through the Pitt-Johnstown defense for her second goal in two games and sixth on the season.

Edge followed Minda with a score of her own in the 61st minute, recording her team-leading 10th goal of the season with Spence providing the assist.

Slippery Rock put a cap on the 5-1 home victory when Harrison sent a pass into the box that was finished by Swope for her fifth goal of the season.

The offensive outburst finished with SRU winning the shot battle over UPJ, 32-4. The 32-shot performance, 19 of which were on goal, marks the second-consecutive game SRU has tallied 30 or more shots. Slippery Rock held the advantage in corner kicks over Pitt-Johnstown (13-1).

The Rock defense turned in yet another stellar performance, allowing one goal or fewer for the 11th time this season. SRU goalkeeper Emma Yoder finished with one save and one goal allowed in 90 minutes played for Slippery Rock.
