Rock rolls to 6-0 victory vs. Clarion

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team scored six goals on 30 shots en route to a 6-0 victory over Clarion at James Egli Field Saturday afternoon.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team scored six goals on 30 shots en route to a 6-0 victory over Clarion University at James Egli Field Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 9-2-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. Clarion falls to 1-9-0 including an 0-9-0 record in conference play.
 
SRU was led on offense by Jordyn Minda and Rachel Edge with each scoring two goals and passing out one assist. Tyler Spence and Georgia Nagucki each added a score while Spence finished with two assists. Miranda Gallucci and Kayla Swope added an assist each to round out The Rock offensive attack.
 
The high octance attack from the Slippery Rock offense started in the fifth minute when Minda scored on a pass from Gallucci for her fourth goal of 2019. Minda finished her second goal of the game on a pass from Edge in the 21st minute, stretching The Rock lead to 2-0.
 
Edge joined the scoring onslaught for SRU when she netted her eighth goal of the season in the 28th minute on a feed from Spence to give Slippery Rock its fastest three goal lead of the season.
 
The first-half scoring effort wasn't finished for The Rock or Edge, when the Spence sent a pass through the Clarion defense to Edge who finished her second goal of the game and team-leading ninth of the season.
 
After assisting on two goals, Spence took her turn in the scoring brigade in the 47th minute on a pass from Minda for her fourth score of the season to give Slippery Rock a 5-0 lead.
 
SRU put a cap on a homecoming afternoon  when Nagucki played a pass from Swope through the Golden Eagle front for her second score in three games, securing a 6-0 victory for The Rock.
 
Slippery Rock recorded its second most shots of the season with 30 while also holding the advantage over Clarion in corner kicks (11-1).
 
The Rock defense turned in its best performance of the season, allowing three total shots with only one being on goal. Goalkeeper Emma Yoder finished the afternoon with one save en route to her fifth shutout win of the season.
 
Slippery Rock returns to action when it hosts the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for a PSAC Western Division matchup at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at James Egli Field.
 
GAME NOTES
• With the 6-0-win, Slippery Rock has scored four or more goals in four of its 11 games this season, the most since accomplishing the feat five times in 2015.
 
• Yoder's fifth shutout of the season marks the most through eleven games for a Rock goalkeeper since Kylie Downs in 2017.
