MANSFIELD, Pa. –
Micah Till became the 14th player in Slippery Rock University men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points and pull down 500 career rebounds when he reached the scoring milestone Friday night in an 87-76 victory on the road at Mansfield University.
Â
The victory is the 10th straight and 11th in the last 12 games for Slippery Rock, which improves to 12-5 overall and 9-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games. The 10-game winning streak ties for the fourth longest streak in program history. Mansfield kept things within single-digits for the majority of the second half before dropping to 1-15 overall and 0-11 in league games.
Â
Till entered the game needing 14 points to reach the 1,000-point milestone in less than two full seasons at Slippery Rock. He scored that bucket early in the second half and finished the night with his seventh double-double in the last 10 games with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
Â
Till was one of two Slippery Rock players with double-doubles in the game as
John Warren II tallied 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The Rock got all 87 of their points Friday night from just five total players.
Jared Armstrong finished with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting,
Nolen Gerald added 14 points and
Vinny Lasley scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
Â
Mansfield took advantage of a frigid start from SRU as The Rock hit just five of their first 20 shots from the floor, allowing the Mountaineers to jump out to a 28-14 lead with 5:43 to play in the first half.
Â
Slippery Rock flipped the momentum late in the opening period and closed the half on a 19-6 run, which included a 9-0 rally to end the half with Mansfield leading just 34-33.
Â
The Rock took the lead for good just over two minutes into the second half and quickly built up a nine-point advantage. Mansfield managed to cut the deficit to two points on six different occasions in the second half, including cutting it to 65-63 with 4:56 to play, but SRU finally put the game out of reach with a 14-4 run late in the period to open up a double-digit advantage in the final two minutes.
Â
The Rock shot 47.6 percent from the field (30-of-63), 23.5 percent from 3-point (4-of-17), 74.2 percent from the free throw line (23-of-31) and outrebounded Mansfield by a 46-31 margin.
Â
Mansfield shot 43.8 percent from the field (28-of-64), 37.0 percent from 3-point (10-of-27) and 62.5 percent from the free throw line (10-of-16).
Â
Tyler Moffe led the Mounties with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Sweeney added 20 points and Garrett Cook scored 17 points.
Â
Friday night's game marked the sixth and final PSAC crossover game for Slippery Rock, which posted a 5-1 mark against the PSAC East. The Rock will now turn their focus back to the PSAC West when Pitt-Johnstown visits Morrow Field House Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
