Rock drops PSAC road match at Gannon, 4-0

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team was defeated by Gannon Sunday afternoon, 4-0, in a PSAC road match in Erie, Pennsylvania.

ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team was defeated by Gannon University Sunday afternoon, 4-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference road match in Erie, Pennsylvania.
 
Gannon's Sam Thornton tallied two scores, Abdullah Say registered one and Ben Andrews also recorded one goal.
 
The Golden Knights got on the board early in the eighth minute when Thornton broke free and scored a goal off a pass from Baran Killic.
 
At 29:22, Thornton received another pass from Killic that he finished in the back of the net for his second goal of the game.
 
Four and a half minutes into the second period, Say got a long pass from Tyler Martin that he fired into the net for a goal.
 
In the 83rd minute, Andrews received a feed from Kevin Lemin that he scored to give GU a 4-0 advantage.
 
Gannon led SRU in shots (11-4) and in shots on goal (8-3).
 
Slippery Rock's Mohsen Kanani registered two shots on frame while Dan Schearer tallied one shot on goal.
 
Goalkeeper Matt Hunsberger surrendered three goals and made four saves. Robbie Bailey also earned some playing time in net for The Rock today, playing eight minutes and fifty-five seconds and allowing one goal.

GOAL: GU 2, ROCK 0; 29:22: Thornton finished of arching pass from Killic
GOAL: GU 3, ROCK 0; 49:33: Say received a pass from Martin and scored
GOAL: GU 4, ROCK 0; 82:48: Andrews got a pass from Lemin and finished
 
GAME NOTES
  • All four of SRU's shots came in the second half.
  • Bailey played in his first game as a member of the SRU men's soccer team.
  • Four goals are the most The Rock have surrendered in a game since Oct. 18, 2017 in a 5-0 loss at Mercyhurst.
  • Despite the loss, Slippery Rock has won its last six out of nine games against Gannon.
