Rock loses in four sets at West Chester

The Slippery Rock volleyball team lost in four sets to undefeated West Chester Friday night in The Rock’s PSAC opener.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost in four sets to undefeated West Chester University on the road Friday night in The Rock's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener.
 
After losing the first set 25-16, SRU rebounded to win the second set 25-13, but the Golden Rams were able to battle back from the second-set loss with 25-18 and 25-20 victories to earn the four-set victory.
 
With the loss, Slippery Rock falls to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC in 2018. West Chester remained perfect on the year at 11-0 overall and 1-0 in league matches.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Jacobsen led the way for Slippery Rock with a career-high 19 kills in the defeat. Seniors Shayla Ray and Beth Stumpf added to The Rock's offensive attack with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Stumpf also made 16 digs for the double-double effort, her fourth of the season.
 
Junior setter Zoe Rivet led the offense with a career-high 45 assists. In addition to serving two aces, sophomore Jalyn Willard also made a match-best 28 digs.
 
For the match, West Chester held advantages over The Rock in attack percentage (.171 - .233), kills (53 – 52) and blocks (10 – 2). SRU did lead the Golden Rams in aces, 7-4.
 
Slippery Rock will look to rebound from its first PSAC defeat of the season with a win 2 p.m. Saturday at Millersville University.
 
NOTES
-In addition to her 19 kills, Jacobsen also posted 16 digs for her second career double-double.
 
-Rivet's 45 assists were the most by a Rock setter in the last three years.
 
-Willard, sophomore Erinn Kahoe and sophomore Gabrielle Barnes combined for six aces in the loss with two apiece.
