PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 on the year with an 18-13 win at Lake Erie College Sunday in non-conference action from Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

The Rock used an 8-0 run midway through the first period to take control of the game and the outcome was never really challenged in the second half. Lake Erie, which was opening its season Sunday, scored six goals in the final nine minutes to account for the final score after SRU led 16-7 with nine minutes to play.

Slippery Rock tallied a 38-28 advantage in total shots in the game and a 28-19 advantage in shots on goal. Â Both teams were credited with 23 ground balls and Lake Erie posted a 17-16 edge in draw controls. The Storm were 19-of-27 in clear attempts, while SRU went 26-of-30 on the clear.

Ally Culhane and
ShyAnne Toomer paced the attack with five points each. Culhane scored a game-high five goals, while Toomer added four goals and one assist.

Tia Torchia scored a hat trick and finished with a team-high five draw controls and two ground balls.

Danie Porath added two goals and
Kelly Muenster scored one goal and handed out one assist to cap the multi-point scorers.
Â
The Rock also got one goal each from
Bre Vodde,
Jess Fullerton and
Jordan Grey and one assist each from
Caitlyn Byerly,
Erin Brown and
Francesca Lindelow.

Emily Bitka improved to 2-0 in goal after recording six saves and allowing seven goals in 49 minutes of action.
Haley Barrett played just under 11 minutes and allowed six goals.

Lake Erie was led by Taylor Mathis with four goals and one assist and Anastasia Crawford with three goals and two assists. Harmony Moore took the loss in goal after allowing 13 goals and recording six saves in just under 35 minutes of action.

Slippery Rock will continue its four-game non-conference swing to open the year when it visits the University of Virginia at Wise March 10 for a 1p.m. game.
