Rock pull away for 79-51 win at Salem

John Warren II and Micah Till each scored 18 points and Slippery Rock held Salem to just 25 second half points to pull away for a 79-51 win on the road Saturday.

SALEM, W.Va. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team outscored Salem University 46-25 in the second half on the way to a 79-51 non-conference victory Saturday at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
 
Slippery Rock improves to 4-5 overall after holding an opponent to just 25 second half points for the second straight game. Salem drops to 8-5 with the loss, which was just its second home loss in seven games this year.
 
The Rock forced 25 turnovers and turned those into a 34-8 advantage in points off turnovers to account for the biggest difference in the game. SRU shot 53 percent in the second half and finished the game shooting 46.9 percent from the field (30-of-64), 28 percent from 3-point (7-of-25) and 63.2 percent from the free throw line (12-of-19), while posting a 40-28 advantage in total rebounds.
 
Salem was held to 37.3 percent from the field (19-of-51), 28 percent from 3-point (7-of-25) and 42.9 percent from the free throw line (6-of-14).
 
Micah Till and John Warren II led Slippery Rock with matching game-highs of 18 points. Till added nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks, while Warren added five rebounds and two assists.
 
Jared Armstrong chipped in 15 points and three assists off the bench and Nolen Gerald gave SRU four players in double-figures with 11 points. Vinny Lasley capped the top scorers with seven points and nine rebounds, while Nik Cazacu and Will Bounds each scored five points.
 
Salem was led by Malique Ross with 14 points, Fonz Hale with 13 points and Chris Shields with 11 points as that trio combined for 75 percent of the team's total points.
 
Slippery Rock will have little time to savor its second straight win, as Lock Haven and Bloomsburg will visit Morrow Field House Tuesday and Wednesday for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover games. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
