Rock falls to Bloomsburg, 3-1

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost Sunday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game against Bloomsburg University, 3-1.

Slippery Rock (6-11, 1-7 PSAC) went up quick in the first half as it scored during the second minute of play. The Rock held on to the 1-0 lead over Bloomsburg (10-6, 4-5 PSAC) for the majority of the first, but allowed the game-tying goal just under two minutes before halftime followed by two second-half goals that proved to be the difference in the contest.

Bloomsburg's defense held The Rock to two shots in the second half, only one of which was on goal.

Sophomore Courtney Pages scored The Rock's loan goal against the Huskies after deflecting in a shot by senior Hannah Downing. Page's goal, which was the fourth quickest score to start a game in program history, was her third of the season making her one of only four players to have scored three or more goals this year.

Page, Downing, sophomore Kayla Ulrich and senior Rachel Ivins accounted for The Rock's shots on goal.

Sophomore Maddie Murphy was the goalie of record for The Rock after making one save and allowing three goals in 46:39. Freshman Hannah Nurse entered the game in relief and did not face a shot on goal over the final 24 minutes.

As a team, The Rock held an advantage over Bloomsburg in shots on goal (5-4). Bloomsburg held edges in total shots (10-7). Both teams recorded six penalty corners.

Prior to Sunday's game SRU's 2018 senior class of Downing, Ivins, Hannah Simone, Tara Maloney, Liz Wolfe and Sam Geroski were recognized for their contributions to the program over their careers.

Slippery Rock will look to bounce back from Sunday's loss with a victory 3 p.m. Friday against Millersville University at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium for their Make A Wish Game. For more information on the Make-A-Wish game and how to donate click HERE.
