Rock bested by Walsh, 93-73

The Slippery Rock women’s basketball team lost at Walsh, 93-73, Wednesday afternoon.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team lost at Walsh University, 93-73, Wednesday afternoon.

Walsh (3-2) jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead in the game's opening three minutes and never looked back on the way to the home victory over The Rock (1-3).

The Cavaliers extended their lead to as many as 27 points (58-31) early in the third quarter before SRU went on an impressive 27-15 run over the next 11 minutes to trim Walsh's lead down to 15 points at 73-58 with 7:40 left in the fourth quarter.

However, Walsh's sizable lead was just too large as Slippery Rock was unable to get closer than 15 points throughout the remainder of the game en route to the 20-point defeat.

For the game, Slippery Rock shot 40.3 percent (29-for-72) from the field overall, 31.6 percent (6-for-19) from 3-point range and 56.3 percent (9-for-16) at the free throw line.

SRU did hold a +2 (17-19) turnover margin against Walsh, but in addition to shooting 43.8 percent from the field (32-for-72) and making 22 of 29 free throw attempts, the Cavaliers held a 53-35 edge in rebounds. 20 of Walsh's rebounds were of the offensive variety which were turned into 22 second chance points.

Sophomore guard Daeja Quick showed why she was named the 2017-18 East Coast Conference Freshman of the Year at the District of Columbia as the transfer guard had her best game in a Rock uniform to date, coming off the bench to go for 23 points, six assists, six steals and five rebounds. The six steals were tied for the eighth most in a single-game in program history.

Senior forward Morgan Henderson scored an efficient 15 points after going 6-for-9 from the field overall and a perfect 1-for-1 from 3-point range. Henderson also corralled three rebounds and made one steal.

Redshirt senior guard Ciara Patterson and junior guard Brooke Hinderliter both fought through foul trouble Wednesday. Patterson scored 11 points while Hinderliter accounted for just eight points in addition to contributing nine rebounds and one block.

Sophomore guard Brittany Andrews recorded four points and four rebounds while junior forward Karington Ketterer chipped in four points as well to round out The Rock's top performers.

Quionche Carter produced a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead Walsh in the victory.
