Rock downs Millersville, 7-0

The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule Sunday with a convincing 7-0 win against Millersville.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule Sunday with a convincing 7-0 win against Millersville University at the SRU Tennis Courts.
 
SRU will head into the spring with a perfect 3-0 record. The Rock has now finished their fall schedule with a perfect record for three consecutive years. The Marauders dropped to 2-5 on the season with the loss.
 
Junior Lacey Cohen and sophomore Olivia Warner began the day by defeating Corinne Grohoski and Sophie May, 6-0.
 
Freshman Lois Page and junior Viola Lugmayr proceeded to clinch the doubles point for The Rock with a 6-1 triumph over Megan Rovenolt and Jasmine Morris.
 
Senior Allie Welch and sophomore Lauren Fadden closed out the doubles portion of Sunday's match with a 6-3 win against Victoria Hanus and Kelsey Heckert.
 
Lugmayr and Page conclude the fall with a stellar 6-2 record while the parings of Cohen and Warner and Fadden and Welch are both 3-1.
 
The singles portion of Sunday's contest completely belonged to The Rock. Already leading 1-0 thanks to its doubles success, SRU promptly secured the match with three quick singles wins by Cohen (6-0, 6-1 over Morris), Fadden (6-0, 6-1 against Grohoski) and Lugmayr (6-0, 6-2 over Heckert).
 
The final bouts of the match featured Welch defeating Weaver 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth flight, Page besting Rovenolt 6-1, 6-0 in the third heat and Warner downing Hanus 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth slot
 
Slippery Rock will enter the spring with every player on its roster boasting a singles record of at least .500. Warner leads the way at 8-1 followed by Cohen (8-4), Lugmayr (6-3), Page (6-4), Fadden (3-1), sophomore Amy Varckette (3-2) and Welch (3-3).
 
Slippery Rock will now break for the reminder of the fall and winter before returning to competition in the spring.
