SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Kutztown University Saturday afternoon at the SRU Tennis Courts.
 
With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 2-0 on the season overall. Kutztown falls to 1-1 in 2018-19 after the loss.
 
Slippery Rock dominated doubles play with three quick wins to earn the first point of the match.
 
Senior Allie Welch and sophomore Lauren Fadden opened doubles competition with a 6-1 win from the third flight over Jillian Siefert and Ashley Carter.
 
From there, junior Lacey Cohen and sophomore Olivia Warner earned a 6-3 win against Sarah Grebosky and Catherine Maher while freshman Lois Page and junior Viola Lugmayr followed suit with a 6-3 victory as well in the first flight over Alicia Pursell and Yasmeen Malik.
 
Cohen, who was fresh off of winning the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference singles championship, continued her winning ways with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Malik in the first singles flight. Page then nearly pulled off a matching shutout of Pursell in the third flight on the way to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
 
SRU proceeded to close out the match with consecutive 6-0, 6-0 wins by Fadden against Sierfert, Warner over Grebosky and Welch over Shadimon Navarro.
 
Lugmayr was winning her second flight match against Maher, but rain forced an early end to the bout.
 
Slippery Rock will close out the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule 11 a.m. Sunday against Millersville University at the SRU Tennis Courts.
