Rock earns road win at Lock Haven, 3-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team shutout Lock Haven in a PSAC match Friday afternoon 3-0 at the Stern Athletic Complex.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team blanked Lock Haven University Friday afternoon 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest at the Stern Athletic Complex.
 
Shannon McIntyre led the offensive charge with two goals, while Madison Johnson tallied one score. Brooke Testa dished out two assists and Sarah Blue registered her first assist of the season.
 
Slippery Rock improves to 4-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play, while Lock Haven drops to 2-4-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the PSAC.
 
SRU recorded just one goal in the first half at 12:57 when Testa sent a corner kick that Johnson headed in to the back of the net. It was Johnson's second goal of the season, while Testa recorded her second assist of 2017.
 
The Rock aimed to make it a 2-0 lead at 41:10 when Tyler Spence sent one toward the goal, but Lock Haven goalkeeper, Bree Hilty made the save.  SRU took its 1-0 lead into the break.
 
After almost 64 minutes of no scoring, in the 76th minute, Testa fed McIntyre with a pass that she fired past the keeper to give The Rock a 2-0 lead. Testa's second assist of the game was her third of the season.
 
McIntyre was not done as just 11 minutes later, Blue sent her a cross into the box that she deposited into the net to make it a 3-0 lead. For McIntyre, she now has three goals in her freshman season.
 
Lock Haven's only chances to score came in the first period. Jordan Shoff sent a shot at goalkeeper Kylie Downs in the 8th and 34th minute, but Downs was able to grab both saves. Downs ultimately finished untested recording two saves on just the two chances.
 
SRU out shot the Bald Eagles 13-5 in the victory and also held the advantage in shots on goal, 7-2.
 
The Rock will be back in action 1 p.m. Sunday when it battles Gannon in a PSAC contest at James Egli Field.
