GREENSBURG, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University softball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division games to Seton Hill University Sunday afternoon at the SHU Softball Field.
The Rock lost 3-2 in the first game of the doubleheader before dropping the second contest, 4-1.
The pair of losses drops Slippery Rock to 9-14 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West. Seton Hill improves to 11-16 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
GAME ONE: Seton Hill 3, Slippery Rock 2
The Griffins struck first in the first inning when Abbey Suhoski had an RBI double to right center to make it a 1-0 game.
Seton Hill added to their lead in the fifth inning when two runners scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
The Rock got back two runs in the sixth inning when
Nicole Siciliano had a two-run homer to left field. Siciliano has recorded home runs in back-to-back games after she hit the first one of her career against California (Pa.) on April 5.
Lauren Hawley,
Kailey Myers and
Alexa Guglielmino each had two hits for The Rock, with Hawley and Guglielmino recording one double apiece.
Carly DeRose took the loss for Slippery Rock after she struck out five and allowed five hits.
GAME TWO: Seton Hill 4, Slippery Rock 1
The Griffins got out to a hot start after scoring all four of their runs in the first inning.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Myers doubled to left center for her first hit of the game. Myers went on to score on a throwing error by the third baseman to score SRU's lone run.
Emily Nagle had two hits in Game Two to lead The Rock offensively.
Brooke Dawson was tagged with the loss after recording two strikeouts and giving up six hits.
The Rock will host Gannon University tomorrow afternoon in a PSAC West doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
