CALIFORNIA, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University softball team swept California University of Pennsylvania for the first time in 11 years with 7-0 and 4-0 shutout wins Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Lilley Field.
The sweep of the Vulcans is the first for Slippery Rock since the 2006 season. Slippery Rock is now 9-12 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC, while California drops to 9-9 and 0-2 in conference action.
GAME ONE: Slippery Rock 7, California 0
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Slippery Rock scored four runs and recorded five hits.
Caitlin Baxter got things rolling with a single to left field before stealing second.
Kailey Myers advanced Baxter to third with a single down the right field line and
Nicole Siciliano scored Baxter on an RBI single through the left side to make it 1-0.
Allie Fischer recorded an RBI single that scored Myers and
Alexa Guglielmino had a two-run double to left center to make it a 4-0 game.
Slippery Rock scored three runs in the next inning, started once again by Baxter, who singled to right center.
Lauren Hawley singled to shortstop and Myers walked to set up Siciliano for her RBI single to centerfield to make it 5-0.
McKenzie Garland registered an RBI single through the left side to score Myers and Fischer scored Siciliano on her second RBI of the game with a single up the middle.
In the best game of her career to date, Siciliano was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Baxter had two hits, two runs and two stolen bases, while Fischer and Guglielmino each had two RBI.
Carly DeRose earned the win after tossing the fourth shutout of her career. She struck out four and gave up just five hits and five walks.

Slippery Rock heated things up again in the fourth inning with three runs and three hits. Baxter sparked the scoring stretch when she scored
Emily Nagle on an RBI double to left field. Hawley reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt that scored Baxter and
Megan Brown on the throw.
Siciliano put up another run for The Rock in the seventh inning on her first career home run.
Fischer had two hits to lead SRU in hitting, while Baxter, Hawley, and Siciliano each had RBI.
Brooke Dawson earned her third shutout of the year. She struck out six and surrendered just four hits and two walks.
