Rock surges by Edinboro in second half to stay unbeaten

Chynna Chan and Bre Vodde each scored two goals and Slippery Rock improved to 5-0 on the year with a 7-3 win at Edinboro.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 7-3 victory on the road at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Tuesday from Sox Harrison Stadium.
 
The Rock continue their best start in school history and improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in PSAC games with the win. SRU also improves to 11-0 all-time in the series against Edinboro. The Fighting Scots drop to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in league games.
 
Slippery Rock posted a 10-6 edge in shots in the first period, but led just 2-1 at halftime Tuesday before exploding in the second half to run away with the game. The Rock scored five unanswered goals over the first 21 minutes of the second half to open up a 7-1 lead with less than nine minutes to play. The hosts tallied two goals in the final eight minutes, but never threatened to climb back into the game.
 
SRU never trailed in the game after Tia Torchia and Chynna Chan scored early goals to put The Rock up 2-0 less than 10 minutes in. Chan would add a second goal later in the game to finish with two goals and two ground balls. Bre Vodde also scored two goals and finished with three ground balls.
 
Ally Culhane and Caitlynn Palladino each found the back of the net once to round out the scorers for SRU.
 
Emily Bitka improved to 5-0 in goal after allowing just three goals and recording seven saves in the victory.
 
Slippery Rock finished the game with a 20-13 advantage in shots and forced Edinboro into 27 turnovers and 10 failed clears in the game. The Scots managed a 24-23 edge in ground balls and a 7-5 edge in draw controls.
 
Edinboro was paced by Emily Peters with two goals and Rachel Olson with one goal. Paige Skinner made 10 saves in the losing effort.
 
Slippery Rock is now the only 5-0 team in the PSAC and the only team in the league with a 2-0 conference record. West Chester (4-0, 1-0) and East Stroudsburg (4-0, 1-0) are the only other unbeaten teams in the league.
 
East Stroudsburg will play Bloomsburg Wednesday before traveling to Slippery Rock this Sunday for a noon game.
