Rock drops a pair at NTC Tournament

The SRU softball team dropped a pair of games Thursday afternoon at the NTC Tournament in Clermont, Florida.

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Slippery Rock University softball team lost a pair of games Thursday afternoon at the National Training Center Tournament in Clermont, Florida.

The Rock opened the afternoon with a 10-2 loss to Bemidji State in six innings, before dropping a contest to Charleston 10-5.

Slippery Rock's record drops to 4-9 overall with two games remaining in Florida.

GAME ONE: Bemidji State 10, Slippery Rock 2 (Six Innings)
Bemidji State scored three runs in the top of the third, but Alexa Guglielmino doubled down the left field line, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a bunt by Amanda Brush to cut it to 3-1.

The Beavers scored two runs in the fourth inning, another in the fifth, and exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 10-1.

Slippery Rock got one run back in the sixth when Hannah Nestor hit an infield RBI single to score Megan Brown.

Jessica Yost fanned 15 batters and limited Slippery Rock to just five hits to earn the win.

Starter Carly DeRose (2-3) struck out three and gave up five hits and three walks in 3.1 innings of work. Paige Flore surrendered four hits and four walks in her 1.2 relief innings. Andrea Copelli also pitched one inning of relief for The Rock.

GAME TWO: Charleston 10, Slippery Rock 5
Charleston took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, sparked by Rachelle Toppings' triple on the first at-bat of the game. Slippery Rock got three runs back in the bottom of the inning on RBIs by Emily Nagle (1) and Kailey Myers (2) to lead 3-2.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the second inning and four in the sixth, thanks in part to Laura Ashlock's two run homer, to take a 8-3 lead. Charleston got had another two-run inning in the seventh to lead The Rock 10-3.

Slippery Rock got back two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, led by Lauren Hawley's RBI single to right center.

Nagle had three hits and an RBI to lead The Rock in the loss, while Myers had two RBI.

Brooke Dawson (2-2) struck out seven and walked three in six innings. Copelli also pitched one relief inning.
