CLERMONT, Fla.- The Slippery Rock University softball team split Wednesday morning at the National Training Center Tournament in Clermont, Florida.
The Rock opened the day with a 3-0 win against Indiana (Pa.) before taking a 4-0 loss at the hands of West Chester. Slippery Rock's record goes to 4-7 overall with four games remaining in the Spring Break trip.
GAME ONE: Slippery Rock 3, Indiana (Pa.) 0
With two outs in the second inning,
Allie Fischer sparked five straight Slippery Rock hits with a double down the right field line.
Amanda Brush scored Fischer on an RBI double to right center and
Caitlin Baxter scored Brush on an RBI single to centerfield to give The Rock a 2-0 lead.
Slippery Rock added another run in the fourth on an IUP error after
Megan Brown singled to second base.
In the sixth inning,
Brooke Dawson worked herself out of a two-on, one-out jam with back-to-back strikeouts to keep the Crimson Hawks scoreless. Dawson (2-1) earned the shutout after giving up just five hits with six strikeouts.
Brown was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead The Rock against Indiana, while
Emily Nagle had two hits and Brush scored two runs.
GAME TWO: West Chester 4, Slippery Rock 0
With two outs in the third, West Chester's Cat Hammer tripled down the left field line to score two runs. Alyssa Herion hit an RBI double to left center to make it 3-0.
Bri Garber scored Emily Maseth in the fourth on an RBI single to left field to stretch the Golden Rams' lead to 4-0.
Fischer recorded two hits for The Rock in the loss, while Baxter added one hit.
Paige Flore (0-3) takes the loss after allowing four runs and striking out one.
Andria Copelli pitched 2.1 innings of relief and gave up just one hit.
