GAME TWO: Slippery Rock 4 – Dominican 3
While Slippery Rock scored early and often in the opener, SRU relied upon late-game heroics to take the nightcap and earn the series sweep against Dominican.
Â
Slippery Rock trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before
Carson Kessler led off the inning with a triple. He would then be driven home by
Frankie Jezioro via an RBI-groundout to cut the Chargers' lead to 3-2.
Â
Campagna, who hit a game-winning two-run home run against Dominican in SRU's 8-7 victory against the Chargers on March 13, proceeded to belt a double to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Pinch-hitter
Mitchell Wood came on and stroked a run-scoring single that plated Campagna to even the game at 3-3 with two outs and one runner on first.
Â
Facing the prospects of extra innings,
James Divosevic came through with a run-scoring, walk-off triple that allowed Wood to score all the way from first base to give Slippery Rock a 4-3 victory.
Â
Divosevic finished the nightcap 2-for-4 with one run scored, and one triple from atop of SRU's batting order. Walters, Jezioro and Wood also registered RBI while Kessler accompanied Divosevic as the only other Rock player to record two hits in game two.
Â
Jezioro, Campagna, Wood and Matt Mendes all recorded hits as well in the victory.
Â
Trevor Adkins started the game on the mound for The Rock, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out a career-high five batters over five innings.
Shawn Holman came on for Adkins in the sixth before being taken out of the game for
Preston Falascino (2-1), who forced a groundout with the bases loaded in seventh inning on the way to his second win of the season.
Â
