MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Slippery Rock University softball team opened the season with three losses at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament Friday.
The Rock dropped a close game to West Virginia State, 1-0, Friday morning before losing to Kutztown in five innings, 11-0, and Northeast-10 favorite Southern New Hampshire, 2-0, later in the evening.
Sophomore
Megan Brown led The Rock (0-3) on Day One of the tournament with four hits and two stolen bases. Senior

Emily Nagle and sophomore
Kailey Myers collected two hits apiece.
GAME ONE: West Virginia State 1, Slippery Rock 0
The Yellow Jackets took a one-run lead in the top of the third inning and The Rock left runners on base in five innings in Game One.
Brown led Slippery Rock's offense with two hits.
Senior
Carly DeRose took the loss as she struck out two batters in three innings of action. Freshman
Andria Copelli came in for four innings of relief in her collegiate debut and struck out two.
GAME TWO: Kutztown 11, Slippery Rock 0 (Five Innings)
Kutztown got out to a five-run lead in the second inning and had two three-run innings in the third and fourth en route to the 11-run win.
McKenzie Garland recorded SRU's lone hit against the Golden Bears.
Copelli took the loss after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing five runs. Junior
Brooke Dawson came in for 2.1 relief innings, striking out two and allowing six runs.
GAME THREE: Southern New Hampshire 2, Slippery Rock 0
Southern New Hampshire scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning and another in the seventh to shut out Slippery Rock in Game Three.
Brown had another two-hit game against the Penmen, including one double.
Junior
Paige Flore took the loss after striking out two and surrendering two runs.
The Rock will face New Haven at 12 p.m. and Shippensburg at 2 p.m. Saturday.
