SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match to Seton Hill University at Morrow Field House Saturday afternoon, 3-0.
Slippery Rock (8-10, 0-6 PSAC) dropped the opening set 25-15 followed by close defeats in the second and third sets to Seton Hill (12-3, 5-1 PSAC) 26-24, 25-20.
Kaley Fucci had a great day for The Rock, recording 11 kills, a .267 attack percentage, 15 digs, one ace and two block assists. Fucci exits the weekend with back-to-back double-doubles.
Erinn Kahoe chipped in six kills and two block assists while the duo of
Brooke Bostwick and
Lamija Alisic added five kills apiece.
Shayla Ray paced The Rock's middle hitters with a team-high four blocks.
Courtney Oberlander matched Fucci for team-high honors in digs with 15 while setters
Zoe Rivet and
Haley Defibaugh split 28 assists with Rivet accounting for 16 and Defibaugh passing out 12.
Slippery Rock trailed Seton Hill by just two points at 16-14 in the first set, but the Griffins proceeded to put the opener away with a 9-2 run, including seven unanswered points, for a 25-15 victory.
SRU appeared poised to take the second set as it built a seemingly safe 24-20 lead, but the Griffins scored the set's final six points, thanks in part to four kills by Leah Bisignani, for a 26-24 win. Seton Hill then took advantage of four separate runs of at least three points in the third set to close out the shutout with a 25-20 match-clinching victory.
Seton Hill was led by Viktoria Farian, who had 17 kills. Bisignani and Katie Wenson added 10 kills apiece.
As a team, Slippery Rock held a 5-4 advantage in blocks, but SHU out-served The Rock 4-3 in aces while also holding a .246 - .148 edge in attack percentage.
Slippery Rock will begin a three-match road stand 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at Edinboro University.
