Rock blanks Bloomsburg, 1-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team earned its third win in the last four games with a 1-0 victory over Bloomsburg Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team earned its third win in the last four games with a 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over Bloomsburg University Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

With the win, Slippery Rock improves to 7-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 in league matches. Bloomsburg drops to 7-3-2 overall and 6-3-2 in conference competition.

Slippery Rock posted the game's lone goal in the 17th minute when Brooke Testa found Skye Kramer with a terrific through ball from midfield, allowing Kramer to finish off a long run by beating Bloomsburg goalie Jenna Hawkins to the upper left.

The goal was Kramer's third of the year. Testa's assist gives her a team-high four on the season.

SRU recorded just two more shots over the remainder of the opening half, but The Rock's stout defense fended off six Huskie shots in the opening 45 minutes to send Slippery Rock into the halftime break leading 1-0.

The Rock's defense continued to dominate the game in the second half as Slippery Rock successfully cleared four corner kicks and four shot attempts, three of which were on goal. With only two seconds remaining in regulation, Bloomsburg was awarded a free kick from just 25 yards out, but Downs stopped Allie Barber's attempt to secure The Rock's victory.

Downs earned her sixth shutout of the season after stopping all five Bloomsburg shots on goal. In addition to her assist, Testa also tallied two of The Rock's six shots against Bloomsburg with Kramer, Sofia Harrison, Tess Keeley and Kaitlyn Barackman all adding attempts as well.

Slippery Rock is now 51-8-6 in games played at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium all-time.

Hawkins stopped one shot and allowed one goal over 90 minutes for Bloomsburg. Barber paced the Huskies' offensive effort with three shots.

Slippery Rock will look to pick up its third consecutive victory with a win against Millersville University Oct. 10 at James Egli Field.
