JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team shutout the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Wednesday afternoon 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest.
Kaitlyn Barackman registered a goal and an assist in the win.
Barackman was involved in both goals The Rock scored in the first period. After her own score, two minutes later she was able to feed
Skye Kramer with a cross for the goal. SRU registered another goal in the second period from
Brooke Testa and held on for the 3-0 victory.
Slippery Rock improves to 6-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in league play, while Pitt-Johnstown drops to 1-9-1 for the season and 1-8-1 in PSAC games.
The Rock put the pressure on early when at 1:51
Maddy Tletski fired a shot that goalkeeper Maria Mosquera saved.
Tess Keeley nearly put SRU on the board 10 minutes later with a shot of her own that Mosquera saved.
Slippery Rock finally broke through at 35:14 when Barackman took a shot from the right side of the box that found the net to give SRU the 1-0 lead. It was Barackman's third goal of 2017.
Just two minutes later, Barackman sent a cross to Kramer that she deposited into the net for the score. For Kramer, it was her second goal of the year and Barackman's second assist of the campaign. The Rock took its 2-0 lead into the break.
Twenty minutes after halftime, Slippery Rock recorded its third goal of the game when Keeley sent a through ball to Testa and she fired into the net. It was Testa's third goal of 2017 and Keeley's team-leading fourth assist of the year. The assist was also the 16th of Keeley's career, which ranks her tied for ninth all-time with Danielle Cooper (2005-07) in SRU women's soccer history.
UPJ nearly got on the board when Sam Bahorich sent a shot on target that
Kylie Downs saved. Downs was rarely tested and it was the only shot she faced all game. The Rock held on for the win, 3-0.
Slippery Rock will return home 4 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Bloomsburg at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. Saturday will also be The Rock's Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
