Rock blanks Pitt-Johnstown, 4-0

The Slippery Rock men's soccer team shut out Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday afternoon in a PSAC contest, 4-0. George Oakley registered a goal and an assist in the victory.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team defeated the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 4-0 Wednesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match. George Oakley registered a goal and an assist in the victory.
 
The Rock rallied for three goals in the first period and never looked back. Oakley, Kenton Keeslar and Tyler McCarthy each got on the board early, while Brady Sittinger tallied a score late in the second half to seal the 4-0 win. Goalkeeper Jonathan Sharp only faced one shot on goal.
 
Slippery Rock improves to 2-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in league play, while the Mountain Cats drop to 0-8-1 overall and 0-5-0 in PSAC games.
 
The Rock was firing early and often and even managed to tally 24 total shots for the game along with 13 shots on goal, its highest output in both categories this season.
 
SRU first got on the scoreboard at 15:52 when Kyle Boyer crossed one into the box for McCarthy who headed it into the net for the score. It was McCarthy's third goal in as many games and Boyer's first assist of 2017.
 
In the 21st minute, Oakley tallied his first goal of the season when he put one on target from the top of the box, giving The Rock a 2-0 lead.
 
SRU was not done in the first half as just before break at 42:08, Keeslar received a pass from Oakley that he deposited into the net for his first goal of the season. It was Oakley's second assist in the 2017 campaign. The Rock took its 3-0 lead into halftime.
 
Following the break, SRU continued its barrage of shots and Oakley nearly found net again at 58:18, but it clipped the post.
 
Sittinger scored his first goal of his Rock career at 79:19 when Hayden Seifert fed him a ball that he put into the net for the score. SRU went up 4-0 en route to the victory.
 
The Rock will continue PSAC play 6:30 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Bloomsburg at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
