SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team lost to West Chester University, 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-17), Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Morrow Field House.
Slippery Rock (10-15, 2-11 PSAC) played the Golden Rams (20-6, 9-5 PSAC) tight for the duration of Saturday's match, but WCU was able to produce large runs in each set that ultimately created enough separation from The Rock for consecutive victories in each set.
Kaley Fucci recorded a team-high nine kills with
Brooke Bostwick close behind at eight. The duo of
Shayla Ray and
Stephanie Jacobsen produced seven kills apiece to round out The Rock's top attackers.
Haley Defibaugh guided the offense with 18 assists while fellow setter
Zoe Rivet tallied a double-double of 15 assists and 10 digs to go with one ace.
Courtney Oberlander made 20 digs and now needs just nine digs to move into second place in program history for digs in a career.
SRU trailed West Chester by just one point at 14-13 in the first set, but the Golden Rams rattled off eight straight points to pull ahead 22-13 on the way to a 25-16 win.
West Chester used a 6-0 run in the second set to take a 16-13 lead, but Slippery Rock clawed back into the set by scoring nine of the next 15 points to tie the game at 22-22. The two teams proceeded to trade points with the match eventually going to a 24-24 tie before the Golden Rams took the final two points of the set to eek out a 26-24 win.
Slippery Rock once again trailed by just one point at 16-15 in the third set, but the Golden Rams took advantage of a 6-0 run to stretch its lead out to 21-15 en route to the 25-17 for the match-clinching victory.
Abbie Dischert led West Chester with 14 kills and three blocks.
Slippery Rock returns to competition 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at East Stroudsburg University.
